Heart Works Mission

Charlie’s story has inspired his parents, Ken & Merredith Levin (and now Charlie helps too!), to create Heart Works.  Our mission is to improve & extend the lives of babies born with heart defects. We plan improve lives of kids with heart conditions (and others who are in the hospital) by raising money to donate books and toys to the Golisano Children’s Hospital child life department.

Currently 1 out of every 100 babies in the US is born with some form of heart defect.  Congenital defects are the most common type of birth defect found in babies today.  Their cause is still unknown.  Golisano Children’s Hospital has a world-renown center for babies born with heart defects.  All children born with heart defects in the Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, & Erie, PA region go there for the amazing surgical team and cardiac intensive care unit.   Equipment for the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) for heart babies like Charlie is very expensive. Having the latest technology and equipment to care for these children can and does save lives.  We want every child that comes through those doors to have every opportunity to thrive and grow like Charlie has.
